Cold Call – Job Specific

Hi Danny,

This is John with ABC Company. I am currently consulting with several leading companies in Atlanta, assisting Accounting and Finance professionals with advancing their careers. I’m working on a variety of opportunities, including a Senior Tax Accountant role with a Fortune 500 company that I thought may interest you.

This role will lead a variety of projects including strategy development and filing coordination, and the person who was previously in this role went on to be the Manager of Accounting.

I would welcome the chance to learn more about your background and career goals and see if this role or some of the others on which I am working might be of interest you.

Please call me when you have a few moments to speak discreetly. I can be reached at xxx-xxx-xxxx.

Again this is John with ABC Company, xxx-xxx-xxxx.

Critique

Cold Call – General Intro

Very professional and friendly, but more call backs will come if:

• Slow down. Like 20%, speed equates, in the ear of the listener, to fear.
• Your voice rises slightly as you announce who you are. Keep that level, or else it comes across like you are asking a question. “Am I John?”
• Lose passive phrases like “might interest” you.
• Impose a deadline and an action. “We are interviewing next week for this position so if it sounds intriguing in any way, let’s talk today, I’m at my desk ‘til 5 pm.”

Cold Call – Job Specific

John’s energy is SO much better in this call than the previous one.

(Do we genuflect on the altar of the caffeine Gods?)

He’d be better off recruiting on one job, rather than offering a “menu” plan. Candidates respond to a situation, not to a List Service approach.
